| General Info: |
Agate (achates) was named from the river Achates, now the Drillo, in Sicily, where the stone was first identified. It is cryptocrystalline quartz (micro crystals) usually with a banded pattern (although not always). |
| Additional Information |
| Found in nodules and a very dense agate. Comes in many colors with banding and fortification very common. May also be found with parallel layers in a portion or all of a nodule. The centers may be open with crystal pockets or closed. These agates can be found to extremely large size.
All stones cut by author. Stones 3 and 4 were hand shaped then polished in vibratory tumbler.
