I started making these cabs in 2005-2006, and called them composite cabs. Composite because they are made up of two or more materials. I didn't call them Intarsia simply because all of the Intarsia I had seen was flat or nearly so, and machine symmetric

These cabs are cut freehand without the aid of a faceting machine. The gluing is done using a flat lap, but without any other aid.

Most of the stones have a frame around them and a backing. A few, like the stinkingwater plume agate have no back or it would effect the translucent part of the agate.

In a few cases I have use colored backings to add contrast to the translucent stone.
